Ella Stone
Who is Ella Stone?
Rafaella Rocha, professionally known as Ella Stone, is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from São Paulo, Brazil. From writing short stories and poems as a teen, as well as learning the guitar at age 14, Rafaella's newfound love for words morphed into lyrics for songs; a mix of rawness, vulnerability, and precise metaphors that explore her and the listener's deepest emotions.
Rafaella then launched a solo project — Ella's Heart of Stone — under the alias 'Ella Stone', a wordplay based on the translation of her last name "rocha" (rock, stone) from Brazilian Portuguese to English. Although the majority of Ella's songs are in English, a Brazilian influence is always clear within her music.
Ella's Heart of Stone aims to be fluid, experimental and unlabeled. The contrasting undertones between the two first demo releases, "Closeness" and "Mine", are proof of this—respectively, a sorrowful slow ballad about emotional unavailability, and a cheerfully upbeat love song.
