Who is Ellen Gruenbaum?

Ellen Gruenbaum is a medical anthropologist, currently Professor of Anthropology at Purdue University College of Liberal Arts. She specializes in gender and women's health issues and religious practices in Africa and the Middle East, and has conducted ethnographic research in Sudan and Sierra Leone on female genital mutilation. She has also served as a research consultant to UNICEF and CARE. Gruenbaum is the author of The Female Circumcision Controversy: An Anthropological Perspective.
