Who is Ernest Macalpine Armstrong?
Dr Ernest Macalpine Armstrong CB is a former Chief Medical Officer for Scotland.
Born in Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland, Ernest Macalpine Armstrong was educated at the former Hamilton Academy, subsequently graduating with First Class Honours in Physiology and with Honours in Medicine at the University of Glasgow where he became a Lecturer in Pathology before entering General Practice at Connel, Argyllshire in 1975, until in 1993 being appointed Secretary to the British Medical Association in London. In 2001 Dr. Armstrong was appointed Chief Medical Officer for Scotland, serving in this post until 2005.
Dr. Armstrong is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh; Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow; Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh; Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners and Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health.
Dr. Armstrong was invested CB in 2005.
