Who was Ernie Lyons?
Ernie Lyons was a Grand Prix motorcycle racer from Ireland. He and fellow racer Fred Clarke modified Triumph Tiger 100s for some races; one of which, the 1946 Manx Grand Prix, Lyons won. His winning motorcycle would become the prototype for the Triumph Grand Prix in 1948. Lyons, aged 99, died in February 2014 at a nursing home in Kill, County Kildare, Ireland.
