Who was George Giles?
George Franklin Giles was a Negro Leagues First baseman in the latter part of the first Negro National League. He started with Gilkerson's Union Giants at the age of 17, and signed with the Kansas City Monarchs at the age of 18. The last known team he played for was the Satchel Paige All Stars of 1939.
Giles' grandson, Brian Giles, was a second baseman for the New York Mets of the National League in the early 1980s.
