Who was George Hunter?

Sir George Hunter was a New Zealand politician of the Reform Party.

Hunter was born in Wellington in 1859. He was a son of George Hunter, and a grandson of George Hunter, the first Mayor of Wellington.

Hunter unsuccessfully contested the Waipawa electorate in the 1890 election. He was elected to Parliament from the Waipawa electorate in the New Zealand general election of 1896. Hunter was defeated in the general election of 1899, but was elected again in the 1911 elections. He continued to serve in the parliament until his death in 1930.

He was knighted in 1921. He died in Wellington on 20 August 1930.
