Who was Gervais, Count of Rethel?
Gervais, Count of Rethel was a French nobleman. He was a son of Count Hugh I and his wife Melisende of Crécy. In 1118 he succeeded his father as Count of Rethel.
He was married to Elisabeth, a daughter of Godfrey I, Count of Namur. Gervais and Elisabeth had two daughters together:
Millicent of Rethel married first Robert II Marmion, Lord of Scrivelsby. She Married second Richard de Camville. She is also called "Elizabeth" but on no good authority. She is second cousin to Adeliza of Louvain.
Gervais died before 1124. Because his younger brother Baldwin was in the Holy Land, where he served as King of Jerusalem, he was succeeded as ruler of Rethel by his sister Matilda and her husband Odo of Vitry.
