Who is Gord Smith?
Gord Smith, is a Canadian sculptor who sculpts geometric forms in metal and wood. His artwork is in the collection of the National Gallery of Canada, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Confederation Centre Art Gallery and the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art.
Gord Smith studied Architecture and Engineering at Sir George Williams University, and went on to work with the architectural firm of Lawson Betts and Cash in Montreal from 1956 to 1958. In 1967, he was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. He was Assistant Professor in the Department of Visual Arts of the University of Victoria from 1972 to 1975. In 1993–94, he assumed a teaching role as Visiting Professor in the Department of Art and History, McMaster University, Hamilton.
