Who was Hans Reiter?
Hans Reiter was a Untersturmführer in the Waffen SS during World War II. He was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, which was awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership by Nazi Germany during World War II.
Untersturmführer Hans Reiter was born in Austria on the 20 April 1920. He volunteered to join the SS-VT and served with the 3rd SS Panzer Division Totenkopf. He was awarded the German Cross in Gold in May 1942, while with the Totenkopf. He was transferred to the 10th SS Panzer Division Frundsberg and served with the H.Q. Company, 21 SS Panzergrenadier Regiment and was killed in action on the Western Front on the 15 August 1944 and awarded a posthumous Knight's Cross.
