Who is Hans Wijayasuriya?

Dr Shridhir Sariputta Hansa "Hans" Wijayasuriya is a Sri Lankan engineer and corporate executive. The Group Chief Executive of Dialog Axiata, Wijayasuriya has been described by his company as having spearheaded Sri Lanka's mobile revolution.

Born to P. M. W. Wijayasuriya, Auditor General and Susila Wijayasuriya, a painter. Hans was the only child. Educated at S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia, he graduated from University of Cambridge in 1989 with a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He subsequently obtained his PhD in Digital Mobile Communications from the University of Bristol in 1994. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering Technology, a Chartered Professional Engineer and a member of the IEEE.

In 1994 Wijayasuriya joined Dialog Axiata as a member of the founding management team, and acted as the company's Chief Executive in 1997. Today, in addition to his role of Group Chief Executive Officer at Dialog Axiata, he functions as the Group Chief Operating Officer of Axiata.
