Who is Harrison R. Johnston?
Harrison R. "Jimmy" Johnston was an American amateur golfer.
Johnston was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. He won the Minnesota Amateur title seven straight years and won the Minnesota State Open twice. He was elected to the Minnesota Golf Hall of Fame in 1988.
Johnston's biggest win came at the 1929 U.S. Amateur where he beat Oscar F. Willing, 4 & 3, at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Johnston played on four winning Walker Cup teams: 1923, 1924, 1928, and 1930.
Johnston led the 1927 U.S. Open after two rounds but slipped to tied for 19th after a third round 87.
Johnston served in the Army in both World War I and World War II and is buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
