Who is Hesaam Esfandyarpour?

Dr. Esfandyarpour is the inventor of electronic DNA sequencing through pH or heat detection. He developed the technology during his Ph.D. work, culminating in his thesis entitled “Electronic Gene Sequencing: A novel method for DNA sequencing based on direct heat or pH measurement” at the Stanford Genome Technology Center and the Center for Integrated Systems at Stanford University. Hesaam developed a label-free and fast electronic sequencing technology that holds the potential to dramatically reduce the cost of sequencing, in both instrumentation and running costs, and enable “Bench to Wellness Sequencing”. He founded GenapSys Inc. to develop this revolutionary technology as a fully-integrated genetic analysis product for the improvement of human health care. Currently, Dr. Esfandyarpour serves as GenapSys’ CEO and Chief Technology Officer.

Hesaam obtained a B.Sc. (with honors) from Sharif University, a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, a M.Sc. in Management Science and Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, CA, USA, in 2006, 2008 and 2009 respectively. He was appointed as a Genome Fellow at the world renowned Stanford Genome Technology Center. In the past he has served as President and CEO of SimorghAva, Inc., an ISP and computer network company which he co-founded in 2002. In 2001, he founded the professional robotic team of Sharif University and was team leader for RoboDeminer 02, an International Robotic Competition, was awarded the Silver Medal in highest level and received the United Nations Certificate of Merit from the UN resident coordinator and UNDP resident representative, F.M. Bastagli for the effort toward Peace and Humanity. In 2000, Hesaam entered Sharif University after ranking third among more than 300,000 participants around the nation in the University National Entrance Examination. Dr. Esfandyarpour has several publications and is the inventor or co-inventor of numerous patents and pending patents related to DNA sequencing and protein detection technologies, including the method of DNA sequencing based on electronic pH or heat sequencing.
