Who was Jacobus Buys?
Jacobus Buys was a Dutch painter and engraver, born in Amsterdam in 1724. He studied under C. Pronk, Jacob de Wit, and C. Troost, and ultimately became director of the Drawing Academy of his native city, where he died in 1801. He painted portraits, bas-reliefs, and tapestry, designed book-illustrations, and made copies of the works of the best masters of the seventeenth century.
