Who was James Burke?
James J. Burke was an Irish Fine Gael politician. A farmer by profession, he was first elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fine Gael Teachta Dála for the Roscommon constituency at the 1954 general election. He was re-elected at the 1957 and 1961 general elections. He died in office in 1964, and the July 1964 by-election held for his seat was won by his widow Joan Burke.
