Who is James Mutende?

James Shinyabulo Mutende is a Ugandan politician. He is the current State Minister for Industry in the Ugandan Cabinet. He was appointed to that position on 27 May 2011. He replaced Father Simon Lokodo, who was appointed State Minister for Ethics & Integrity in the Office of the President. On account of being a cabinet minister, James Mutende is also an ex officio Member of Parliament.

Dr. Mutende comes from a family of distinguished technocrats and politicians. His father Michael Mutende was the first Ugandan Town Clerk of Mbale Municipality from 1964-74. His uncle James Francis Wapakhabulo was himself cabinet minister at the time of his death in 2004. Dr. Mutende, a holder of a PhD in economics, was recently cited as one of the three most highly educated ministers in Museveni's current government.
