Who is James Sherman?
James Sherman is a playwright from Chicago. His plays include Magic Time, The God of Isaac, Mr. 80%, The Escape Artist, This Old Man Came Rolling Home, Beau Jest, Jest a Second!, Romance in D, Door to Door, The Old Man's Friend, and Affluenza!. Sherman began his professional career as a writer and actor at Chicago's The Second City. In 1986, after the success of God of Isaac, Sherman was named Playwright in Residence at Victory Gardens Theater in Chicago, where many of his plays have debuted. In addition to writing, Sherman is a teacher of playwrighting and acting on the faculties of Columbia College Chicago, The Second City Training Center, Chicago Dramatists Workshop, and Victory Gardens Theater. In 2002, he received a Playwrighting Grant from the Illinois Arts Council. He has also received fellowships from the MacDowell Colony, the Ragdale Foundation, The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and Yaddo.
