Who is James Smith?
James Smith was a scholar and priest who became Archdeacon of Barnstaple during 1660. He was also much admired for his wit, collections of his satirical verse being published in the 1650s.
He was the son of Thomas, the rector of Marston Moretaine, Bedfordshire, and matriculated in 1622/3. He was awarded D.D. in 1661.
