Who is Jane Dillon?
Jane Dillon is a British designer specialising in furniture and lighting, although her work has also included textile design, glassware, cutlery and art direction.
Dillon studied interior design at Manchester College of Art and then furniture design at the Royal College of Art. At the RCA she was taught by David Pye, and studied alongside the graphic designer George Hardie, the artist Richard Wentworth, the artist-designer Roger Dean, and the designer James Dyson.
In 1968, Dillon was awarded an RCA Travel Scholarship, which she used to travel to Milan to work at the studio of the Italian designer Ettore Sottsass. At the time Sottsass had been commissioned to design a range of office furniture called Synthesis 45, on which project Dillon collaborated alongside designers Perry Young, Albert Leclerc, Bruno Scagliola and Tiger Umeda, producing a series of colour studies. She also worked as the researcher and graphic designer of the book L'Arte di Colorare l'Ufficio and designed chairs including the "T-Time Chair".
In 1971, Dillon returned to London and married a fellow former RCA design student, Charles Dillon.
