Who is Jay W. Boersma?
Jay Weaver Boersma is a fine art and documentary photographer, designer, and creative director, and since 1996, Senior Creative Director at Playboy.com.
He was born in Chicago, graduated in the class of 1965 from Eisenhower High School in Blue Island, Illinois and attended the University of Illinois at Chicago. In 1967, while driving to and from night classes at Thornton Junior College, Jay and Bruce S. Edwards taught themselves the basics of photography. Also. during this time Jay worked as a Quality Control Technician at the Johnson and Johnson Midwest Surgical Dressing plant in Bedford Park, IL and later as a studio assistant at Shigeta-Wright Studio in Chicago. While at Johnson & Johnson, Jays sense of humor manifested itself in strange ways, he photocopied dollar bills to use in the vending machines, he would coat door knobs with KY jelly and he played hide the forklift in the warehouse. Despite his sense of humor and his hypocritical contempt for credentialism, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1974 from Columbia College Chicago with a concentration in photography and additional work in ceramics and printmaking.
