Who was Jerry Benjamin?

Jerry Charles Benjamin was an American Negro league baseball center fielder who played from 1931 to 1948. He played for the Knoxville Giants, Memphis Red Sox, Detroit Stars, Birmingham Black Barons, Homestead Grays, Newark Eagles, and New York Cubans. While with the Grays, Benjamin won Negro League championships in 1941, 1943, 1944, and 1948. A three time East-West All-Star, he had a .485 batting average in 1943.

Benjamin was born in Montgomery, Alabama, and died in Detroit, Michigan.
