Who was John Barrett?
John Barrett was a colonel and head of the barony of the Cork Barrett family.
Col. Barrett is noted for raising a regiment of infantry for King James' army in Ireland. In 1691 the Williamite confiscation deprived Barrett, the head of the family at that time, of 12,000 acres. He was killed in the French service at the Battle of Landen, alongside fellow Jacobite Patrick Sarsfield, in 1693.
