Who is John D. FitzGerald?

John D. FitzGerald is head of the Macroeconomics and Resource economics Division and coordinator of the research programme of macroeconomics of the Economic and Social Research Institute in Dublin, Ireland. He joined the ESRI in 1984, after 12 years at the Department of Finance. He holds Master's degrees in History and Economics from University College Dublin.

FitzGerald has made substantial contributions to economic policy in Ireland, ranging from investment priorities and structural funds, to energy policy and membership of the Economic and Monetary Union. He is the lead author of the influential bi-annual Medium-Term Review which forecasts economic development in Ireland for the next two decades.

FitzGerald is or was a member of many committees, including the Irish Energy Research Council, the National Economic and Social Council, the EU Group for Economic Analysis, the Northern Ireland Authority for Energy Regulation, and the Renewable Energy Strategy Group. He is president of the Irish Economic Association, and president of the EuroFRAME group of economic forecasters.

His father is Garret FitzGerald, his grandfather Desmond FitzGerald, and he is married to Eithne FitzGerald.
