Who was John Fihelly?
John Arthur 'Jack' Fihelly was a rugby union player who represented Australia, a rugby league player, a founder of the Queensland rugby league, and a Labor Party politician.
Fihelly, a flanker, was born in Timoleague, Ireland and claimed 1 international rugby cap for Australia.
Fihelly was one of rugby league football's founding players in Brisbane. In 1908 he travelled to Britain on the first Kangaroo tour as assistant manager.
Fihelly was elected as a member for Paddington in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland on 27 April 1912 and became a minister in Queensland Labor governments.
