Who is John Hendra?
John Hendra currently serves as the Assistant Secretary-General for Policy and Programme at the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. He was appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon on 11 March 2011.
As a Deputy to the Executive Director of UN Women, Michelle Bachelet, Hendra leads the bureau which provides policy analysis, research and training, programme management and oversight.
Before joining UN Women, Hendra served the United Nations in many countries. He was United Nations Resident Coordinator and United Nations Development Programme Resident Representative in Viet Nam, United Republic of Tanzania and Latvia. He has also worked at the highest level with UN Member States on development programming and conducting development policy dialogue.
From 2000 to 2002, Hendra served as the Deputy Director of UNDP’s Bureau for Resources and Strategic Partnerships. In this position, he led the management of relationship building with donors, the private sector, civil society and foundations.
