Who was John Hull?

John Hull was the leading merchant and mintmaster of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He married Judith Quincy, daughter of Judith Pares and Edmund Quincy, progenitors of the prestigious Quincy family.

Among his apprentices was Jeremiah Dummer who became the first American-born silversmith. In January 1658 he and several other men made a large land acquisition in Rhode Island known as the "Pettaquamscutt Purchase."
