Who is John Lucas, 1st Baron Lucas of Shenfield?

John Lucas, 1st Baron Lucas of Shenfield was an English industrialist and landowner. He supported the Royalist cause in the English Civil War. Elected an Original Fellow of the Royal Society in 1663, he was possibly expelled in 1666.

Lucas had one surviving daughter, Mary Grey, Countess of Kent, who was created 1st Baroness Lucas of Crudwell in her own right at her father's request.

Lucas was buried at St Giles's church, Colchester.
