Who was John Stopford?
John "Johnny" Stopford born in Wigan, Lancashire, was an English professional rugby league footballer of the 1950s and '60s, playing at representative level for Great Britain, and at club level for Swinton, as a Left-Wing, i.e. number 5, he died in Wigan. Johnny Stopford formed a highly successful Left-Wing partnership with his Centre and fellow Great Britain international Alan Buckley. Stopford toured Australasia in 1966 together with Lions teammates Buckley, Ken Gowers and Dave Robinson.
