Who was John Tyler, Jr.?

John Tyler, Jr. was the second son of President John Tyler and his first wife, Letitia Christian Tyler. A lawyer, and colonel during the U.S. Civil War for the Confederacy, he also served as assistant Secretary of War for them. His papers are held by the Special Collections Research Center at the College of William and Mary.

He was interred on January 29, 1896 at the Public Vault at the Congressional Cemetery in Washington, D.C. and then disinterred on April 29 for reburial at Arlington National Cemetery.
