Who is Jose Luis Ramos Escobar?
José Luis Ramos Escobar is a noted Puerto Rican writer and playwright, who has also directed several plays and written television scripts. He currently serves as Dean of Humanities at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus, where he is also a Professor at the Drama Department.
He has published a novel, Sintigo; a book of stories, En la otra orilla; and plays including Indocumentados, Mano dura, Gení y el Zepelín, The Smell of Popcorn/El Olor del Popcorn, El salvador del puerto, Salsa gorda, ¡Puertorriqueños?, and Mascarada. Ramos has directed more than 18 productions and has written scripts for television including De sol a sol, a documentary about Manuel Gregorio Tavárez; Cuando despierta el amor, a dramatic TV series; Sentimientos encontrados, a miniseries; and Desandando la vida, a single episode drama.
Ramos Escobar holds a Bachelor's Degree in Drama and Comparative Literature from the University of Puerto Rico, and a Master's and Ph.D from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
