Who is Joseph Colaneri?
Joseph Colaneri is an American conductor. From 1987 to 1998 he was a conductor with the New York City Opera. He has been a member of the conducting staff at the Metropolitan Opera since 1998, and as of 2009 has conducted a total of 35 performances for the company. He is currently the Director of the Opera Program at the Mannes College of Music where he has conducted full productions of Falstaff, Così fan tutte, Dialogues of the Carmelites, Le nozze di Figaro, a double-bill of Il Tabarro and Gianni Schicchi, Die Zauberflöte, and La bohème. In May 2012 he will conduct the Mannes Opera Young Artists once again, this time in a full-production of Don Giovanni Tenorio.
West Australian Opera announced in January 2012 that Colaneri would take up the position of Artistic Director of the company six months later in July, and that he would conduct their September season of Madama Butterfly. He takes up the post left vacant by Richard Mills' move to Victorian Opera, after holding the position of AD at WA Opera for 15 years.
