Who was Josiah White?

Josiah White was an early pioneer in the advancement of antracite coal for heating and manufacturing in everyday life. Along with this he also helped establish a better transportation industry for transport of this coal and other material in the Delaware Valley and the Lehigh Valley regions. Thus helping to establish the Lehigh Coal & Navigation Company, along with co-founder Erskine Hazard.

A number of his works, including several separated sections of the Lehigh Canal are individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
