Who was Klaus H. Hofmann?

Klaus H. Hofmann was an American chemist and medical researcher. The New York Times called Hofmann an "expert on synthesis of body compounds". Hoffman was internationally notable for his research of the degradation and synthesis of natural compounds, and for his contributions to our understanding of the structure and metabolism of bacterial fatty acids. He was noted specifically for generating a hormone equivalent to ACTH

Hofmann was the founder and the director of Protein Research Laboratory at the School of Medicine at University of Pittsburgh, a member of the National Academy of Sciences, professor emeritus of experimental medicine and biochemistry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and a member of American Association for the Advancement of Science.
