Who is Koichi Aoyagi?

Koichi Aoyagi has been a general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 2009.

Aoyagi was born in Matsumoto, Nagano, Japan. He joined the LDS Church in 1962 and shortly after began studies at Kanagawa University. He studied at Kanagawa for two years, but then returned home because the family business had gone bankrupt. He then served as a building/construction missionary for the LDS Church in Japan from 1965 to 1967. After working for a year to save up money, he served as a full-time missionary for the LDS Church in the Northern Far East Mission, serving in Japan, from 1968 to 1970.

Aoyagi first met Shiroko Momose in 1962, shortly after Aoyagi was baptized. They were married in Japan in 1970 and their marriage was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple a week later. They are the parents of four children.

Aoyagi earned his real estate license from the Japan Real Estate Authority. He worked as a sales manager for multiple companies and later as assistant recorder of the Tokyo Japan Temple and as Real Estate and Construction Manager for the Asia North Area of the LDS Church, overseeing church building acquisition and construction in Japan, Korea and Micronesia.
