Who is Mahmud Hussain?
Mahmud Hussain Khan was a Pakistani academic, educationist, and politician, credited with pioneering the study of social sciences in Pakistan. A supporter of the Pakistan Movement, he was appointed Minister of State for both Defence and Foreign Affairs in 1949, before serving as Minister for Education from 1952 to 1953. Returning to academia, he taught as visiting professor at Heidelberg University, Columbia University, and the University of Pennsylvania during the 1960s, before serving as Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University from 1960 to 1963, and of Karachi University from 1971 until his death in 1975.
