Who is Mikael Rothstein?

Mikael Rothstein is an associate professor of religious history at the University of Copenhagen in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 2002 he was on the board of the Danish Association for the History of Religions and the editorial boards of the publications Renner Studies on New Religions and Nye Religioner.

Rothstein is the author of several books on religious history and especially on the role of new religious movements, among them: Belief Transformations: Some Aspects of the Relation between Science and Religion in Transcendental Meditation and the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, Secular Theories on Religion: Current Perspectives, New Age Religion and Globalization, and New Religions in a Postmodern World.

In 2008 Rothstein was highly critical of Denmark’s state-owned broadcast service DR when it issued a policy favoring Christian values, since he felt that Muslims would feel excluded.
