Who was Muhammad Abdullah Ghazi?

Maulana Muhammad Abdullah Ghazi in Rajanpur, Basti-Abdullah and graduated from Jamia Uloom-ul-Islamia in Banori-town Karachi. After his graduation he was appointed as Lal Masjid first Imam in 1966. He created many seminaries in Pakistan. Maulana Abdullah was critical of all governments except Zia's with whom he was very close. General Mohammad Zia-ul-Haq had a very close relationship with Maulana Muhammad Abdullah.

During the Soviet war in Afghanistan, the Red Mosque played a major role in recruiting and training Mujahideen to fight with the Afghan Mujahideen. He also had ties to Osama bin Laden. He was assassinated on 17 October 1998 in the courtyard of Lal Masjid. A few months before his assassination he had met Osama bin Laden in Kandahar.
