Who is Peter Wittig?

Peter Wittig is a German diplomat and has been Germany's Permanent Representative to the United Nations since December 2009.

Since joining the West German foreign service in 1982, Wittig has been the ambassador of Germany to Lebanon and to Cyprus. Wittig has served twice as the President of the United Nations Security Council, once in July 2011 and again in September 2012.

Wittig studied at the University of Bonn, the University of Freiburg, Canterbury Christ Church University, and the University of Oxford. He has taught as an Assistant Professor at the University of Freiburg.
