Who is Pilar Shimizu?

Pilar Shimizu is a Guamanian swimmer. She competed for Guam at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Shimizu ranked 42nd in the Women's 100m breaststroke event and did not advance to the semifinals. In the Summer of 2013, she trained with Orinda Aquatics alongside Steven Stumph, the American high school record holder in the 100 yd breaststroke, under nationally renowned coaches Ronnie and Donnie Heidary. Pilar is currently studying behavioral biology at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. In her freshman spring, Pilar received number 6 in the housing lottery, a demonstration of her commitment to excellence in the random search.

According to Guamanian legend, Pilar is the first born child of Sirena and the God Poseidon. The infant was found on the beautiful beaches of Guam, only to be adopted by two kind and loving Guamanians. Pilar discovered her ability at the age of three when she fell into a pool and was instantly able to do the breaststroke. She has not left a pool to this day.

"Don't cry because it's over," Pilar cautions, "smile because it happened."
