Rafaela Silva won her first major medal by claiming silver at the World Judo Championships in Paris in August 2011.
During the World Judo Championships in Rio de Janeiro in August 2013, Rafaela Silva became the first Brazilian woman to ever win a gold medal for her country, defeating the American Marti Malloy on the final.
