Who was Ralph Sockman?
Ralph Washington Sockman was a professor at Union Theological Seminary and pastor emeritus of the Christ Church (Methodist) in New York City, a prolific author, and a featured speaker of the Sunday morning NBC radio networks's National Radio Pulpit. He toured extensively for speaking engagements around the United States and along with his numerous writings, published some of his sermons in Ways of the Christian Life - Sermons by the Sea (1939). He became director of the Hall of Fame for Great Americans in 1949. Sockman was considered "the best Protestant preacher in the U.S." as honored by Time magazine in 1961. Some of his best-selling books on christianity are still available in print, including Now to Live (1946) and Live for Tomorrow (1943).
