Who is Rauf Parekh?
Rauf Parekh is an Urdu lexicographer, linguist, humorist and columnist. Born in Karachi on August 26, 1958, Parekh was educated in Karachi. Having obtained an MA and PhD in Urdu from the University of Karachi, he worked for the Urdu Dictionary Board, Karachi, as Chief Editor from 2003 to 2007. Currently he teaches Urdu at the University of Karachi and writes a weekly literary column in Dawn. In addition to research articles, humorous essays and critical writings, he has to his credit over 20 books. Some of his books are: Urdu Lughat, Awwaleen Urdu Slang Lughat, Urdu Lughat Navisi, the Oxford Urdu-English Dictionary, Asri Adab Aur Samaji Rujhanat and Iqbal by Atiya Begum.
