Who was Richard Onslow?
Lieutenant-General Richard Onslow was a British army officer and politician.
He was the second son of Foot Onslow and the younger brother of Arthur Onslow, Speaker of the House of Commons. On 9 December 1726, he married his brother's sister-in-law, Rose Bridges, daughter of John Bridges of Thames Ditton. She died in 1728 without children, and he married again to Pooley Walton, daughter of Charles Walton. They had four children:

Rev. Arthur Onslow, married Frances Phipps, daughter of Constantine Phipps, and had issue
Elizabeth Onslow, married Rev. Hon. George Hamilton, son of James Hamilton, 7th Earl of Abercorn, and had issue
Onslow fought at the Battle of Dettingen. He was governor of Fort William 1752–1759, and was appointed Governor of Plymouth in 1759, but died the following year.
