Who is Richard Parncutt?
Richard Parncutt is an Australian-born academic who specialises in the psychology of music. He has been Professor of Systematic Musicology at Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz in Austria since 1998. He is primarily known for his research on the psychology and psychoacoustics of music. He also attracted media attention in 2012 for raising questions about the death penalty, climate change denial, and the Catholic Church and HIV/AIDS. Although his statements were intended as a provocative thought experiment and not to be taken literally, climate deniers responded with cyberbullying, attracting media attention and causing public anger. Parncutt issued an unconditional retraction and apology for his statements and removed them from his website.
