Robert Homer Simpson is a meteorologist, hurricane specialist, first director of the National Hurricane Research Project, and a former director of the National Hurricane Center. He was the co-developer of the Saffir–Simpson Hurricane Scale with Herbert Saffir. His wife was Joanne Simpson.
