Who is Rogelio Cabrera López?

Rogelio Cabrera López is the current archbishop of Monterrey since his appointment was announced on 3 October 2012. He had previously served as archbishop of Tuxtla Gutierrez.

He was born in Santa Catarina, Guanajuato in the diocese of Querétaro. He studied humanities, philosophy and theology at the Seminary of Querétaro. He completed his studies in Rome at the Pontifical Gregorian University and the Pontifical Biblical Institute, obtaining a Licentiates in Theology as well as Sacred Scripture. He was ordained a priest on 17 November 1978 by the nuncio to Mexico.

Appointed bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tacámbaro on 30 April 1996 by Pope John Paul II, he was ordained to the episcopacy on 30 May 1996. On 16 July 2001, he was transferred by John Paul II to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tapachula.

On 11 September 2004, he was appointed to serve as bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tuxtla Gutiérrez. On 25 November 2006, following the establishment of the Ecclesiastical Province of Chiapas, and with the elevation of the Diocese of Tuxtla Gutierrez to an Archdiocese, he became the first Archbishop.
