Who is Ronnie Wells?

Ronnie Wells was a jazz balladeer and educator in the Washington area for more than three decades. She shared the stage with such internationally known artists as Billy Eckstine, Lonnie Liston Smith, Jimmy Witherspoon and Oscar Brown.

Wells was founder of the Fish Middleton Jazz Studies Scholarship and co-founded the East Coast Jazz Festival in Montgomery County in 1992, which was an annual jazz festival that continued until 2006. Wells died in 2007 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD, after battling lung cancer.
