Who is Sam Tabar?

Sam Tabar is a New York-based capital strategist known for his particular expertise in hedge fund management. Tabar is originally from Montreal, Canada. In 1996, he moved to the U.K. to attend Oxford University where he served as President of the French Society. Tabar left Oxford In 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts and scholastic honors. It was while Tabar was at Oxford that his interest in capital strategy and law began to take shape. Tabar went on to study law in New York at Columbia where he also worked as an editor for the Columbia Business Law Review. Upon receiving his law degree, Tabar accepted a position with one of the largest firms in New York, Arps, Slater, Meagher, and Flom LLP. Tabar took a proactive approach to providing counsel on investment management agreements, hedge funds, regulation and compliancy, private placement memoranda, employment issues, and side letters. In 2004, Tabar took his career to new levels. He accepted the offer extended from SPARX Group & PMA Investment Advisors. Tabar’s fluency in both French and Japanese was key in successfully assuming a role with Bank of America/Merrill Lynch as the Asian-Pacific Regional Director and Head of Capital Strategy. While supporting his position with the SPARX Group and PMA Investment Advisors, Tabar successfully managed oversight on a 2 billion dollar hedge fund. Additionally, Tabar designed and implemented a strategic marketing campaign that successfully targeted institutional investors, and high net worth entities such as endowments, foundations, and pensions. Tabar left Bank of America/Merrill Lynch in 2012 to pursue his investments goals, joining the New York-based firm, Adanac LLC. , BVI at Adanac. Tabar took an interest in the startup culture while serving as one of Adanac’s directors and invested in THINX, a social startup that benefits women in Africa, as well as a Verboten, a New York-based alternative music venue. In 2013, Tabar returned to the legal practice as a Senior Associate at Schulte, Roth, and Zabel, LLP. Tabar took ownership of the firm’s hedge fund operations where he advised hedge fund controllers on every aspect of managing a successful hedge fund from the fundamentals such as formation and structuring, to the most complex attributes of maintaining a hedge fund, such as bank regulations compliancy. Tabar left Schulte, Roth, and Zabel in 2014 to pursue other interests including expanding his personal investments portfolio. His latest investment for 2015 is in a startup company called Tribute. Tribute is a Brooklyn-based digital media initiative that focuses on video sharing. Other than capital investment strategy, Tabar enjoys traveling and hosting events.
