Who is Sarah Menezes?

Sarah Gabrielle Cabral de Menezes is a judoka from Brazil who made history by becoming the first Brazilian woman to win an gold medal at this sport, at the –48 kg category after defeating the reigning champion Alina Dumitru of Romania, at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. She had also competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics, losing in the first match.

Sarah Menezes won her first major medal by claiming bronze at the World Judo Championships in Tokyo in September 2010.
