Who is Sean Hughes?

Sean Hughes is a current professional boxer born in Pontefract on 5 June 1982. He now resides in Wakefield and is most famous for shocking British boxing in December 2007 when he out punched and totally outschooled the then British Super Bantamweight Champion, Esham Pickering. Pickering was on the verge of stepping up to European and even World level before the bout and it was expected to be a routine victory for the Newark champion. However, at the Nottingham ice arena in front of the SKY TV cameras Hughes tore up the script and put on by far the greatest display of his career to date; to snatch a points victory over 8 rounds and almost have Pickering retire on his stool before the final round.

In the rematch for the British title on January 18, 2008 Pickering avenged that loss and stopped Hughes in round 9 in another exciting contest which was nominated for fight of the year.
