Who was Sir George Oxenden, 5th Baronet?
Sir George Oxenden, 5th Baronet was an English Whig politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1720 to 1754.
Oxenden was the son of George Oxenden LLD master of Trinity Hall, Cambridge and his wife Elizabeth Dixwell daughter of Sir Basil Dixwell Bt. In 1720 he succeeded his brother Sir Henry Oxenden, 3rd Baronet in the baronetcy.
Oxenden was elected Member of Parliament for Sandwich on 9 May 1720 and held the seat until 1754. He was a Lord of the Admiralty and a Lord of the Treasury.
Oxenden died aged 80.
Oxenden married Elizabeth Dunch, daughter of Edmund Dunch of Little Wittenham then in Berkshire. They had one son Henry who succeeded in the baronetcy.
